Mahesh is not returned as Poorna asked him to by 9pm. She tried to call him, but he ignored couple of times. Third time, he disconnected her call. Fourth time, he switched off the mobile. Poorna was getting furious. "Kova padurathunna naan thaan actuala ivar mela kova padanum, ivar ethuku namma call-a cut panraru, athuvum night pesanum, 9 manikku vanthudungannu vera solli irukken, oru velai officela nijamave neraiya velai irukkumo? Ithana naal feverla irunthapo ivar illama thaana manage panni irupanga? Ippo night 9pm varaikkum work panra alavuku avarukku apdi enna velai kuduthu irupanga? Pesama Raghav annanuku call panni keppoma? Ivar yedhavathu kochikitta enna panrathu?" Poorna kept thinking and couldn't sleep. Its 10pm and she couldn't wait anymore. She called Raghav.
P: Hello Raghav anna
Raghav: Hello, sollu Poorna, epdi irukka?
P: Mm nalla irukken na, neenga innum officela thaan irukeengala?
R: Illa ma naan veetuku vanthuten, yen? Mahesh vanthutan thaana?
P: Innum illa anna, officela neraiya velai irukkumnu ninakiren

Raghav called the cafe number and asked them to check if Mahesh is there. They replied yes. He asked him to give the phone to Mahesh to talk.
R: Hey Mahesh naan Raghav pesuren da

R: Athaan switch off aagi irukke
M: Oh amam
R: Switch off aagiducha, illa nee switch off panniniya?
Mahesh thought for a second and decided to lie.

Mahesh's guess was right.
M: Poornava? Enna sonna? Avala nee paathiya?

M: Hmm ok da, naalaiku kalaila paakuren
Raghav called Poorna and told her about Mahesh's headache and him snoozing off after taking the tablet and also that her guess was right about Mahesh's mobile got switched off due to low battery.
Poorna thanked him and disconnected the call. She thought "Enakku thaana theriyum, avaru ethana thadava en calla avoid panninarunnu, low battery-ala switch off aagiducham, innaiku avarkitta pesalannu ninachen, but naan yen pesanum? Doubts illama pesi clear panni santhoshama irukkalannu ninachen, aana eppo naan ivlo thooram try panniyum ennai ignore panninaro, eppo enakku irukkira akkarai avarukku illaiyo, naan mattum ethukku avarkitta vazhiya vazhiya pesa solli kenjanum, ennamum pannatum".
Poorna switched off the lights, covered herself with a blanket and forced herself to sleep, but she couldn't. May be 30 mins would have gone when Mahesh slowly opened the door and entered the room. He put away his office bag, changed into his nightwear, refreshed himself. When he came to bed, Poorna thought he might come and hug her and might try to make her cool. "Varattum, vanthu ice vaikkira madiri yedhavathu pannatum, apram irukku avarukku" thought Poorna. She was ready to give him the cold shoulders. But he didn't touch her, in fact, he started to sleep on the other side away from her, making sure that there is a good gap between them. It made Poorna furious. "Evlo thimiru iruntha ivlo thooram en callsa avoid pannitu, Raghav annakitta low battery ala switch off aagiduchunnu poi sollitu, onnume nadakatha madiri thoonguvaru??"
Neither of them turned to other side to see the other.
Next morning Mahesh was getting ready to go to work. Poorna looked angry and didn't put any effort to talk to Mahesh, although kept staring at Mahesh while doing the chores to make eye contact with him and to let him know that she is staring at him as she is angry. Mahesh looked indifferent, not cold or warm, no expression on his face, he looked bit tired, he didn't even make eye contact with Poorna.
When Poorna gave him the lunch bag, he didn't even say thanks or looked at her, he just left to work. Poorna got confused. "Naan thaana kova padanum ivar mela? Athaan naan kovama irukken, but ivaru ennadanna enmela kovama irukka madiri ennai paaka kooda matenguraru?" Poorna became dull and sad as her efforts are running thin. Ravi came behind her and asked "Nethu night late-a vanthana?"
Poorna didn't reply anything.
"Sollu Poorna, late-a thaana vanthan?"
"Amam"
"Mmm enga poi suthittu vanthannu kettiya?"
"Yen kekkanum? Avar onnum porupillama suthura aal kidaiyathu, Officela velai adhigam, athanala late-a vantharu"
"Mhmm.." smirked Ravi.
It bothered Poorna. "Yen nakkala sirikureenga?"
"Nee innum Mahesha purinjukalaiyenu ninachen"
"Ithula purinjukka lam onnum illa, Raghav annan kooda nethu call panni kettapo office cafe-la thaan Mahesh irukartha sonnaru"
Again Ravi smirked. Poorna become confused and angry.
"Yaaru? Ivan close friend Raghava? Sariya pochu, avan unakku unmaiya solratha vida Maheshku unmaiya irukanunnu thaan ninapan, ennavo po, ipdi ilichavaaya irukkatha, ellarum yemathiduvanga"
"Epdi? Neenga ennai yemathina maadiriya?" gave back Poorna.
"Naan yemathinatha sari panna thaan unakku ivlo thooram help panna try panren, athu kooda unakku puriyalaye, anyhow enakenna vanthuchu? Enakku velai irukku, naan kilamburen" left Ravi.
Couple of days passed without Mahesh and Poorna talking to each other. Its around 5pm in the evening, Mahesh returned from work so early today, but with bunch of files. Mahesh was talking to someone on the phone.
"Amam da, inga almost work mudinjuthu, innum couple of days-la Kodaikanal varuvennu ninakiren"
....
"Amam, amam, Raghavum thaan varuvan, but avan anga konja naal thaan iruppan, avanuku work main-a Chennaila thaana, appapo vanthutu povan"
.....
"Sure da, un wife-a officela vanthu kudukka sollu, naan varum pothu kondu varen"

"Ok da bye"
Poorna got alerted to know that Mahesh will leave to Kodaikanal in couple of days. She started to wonder and worry "Enna ithu? Onnume antha phone call pathi kekala, pesa mudiyala, ivar mela naan kovama irukkalannu paatha ivaru enakku mela kovama irukkaru, ennai kandukka kooda matenguraru, ipdiye pesamale continue pannalama? Pannina apram Kodaikanal poiduvare, apram epdi pesarthu? Cha, naan yen ithellam ninachu worry pannanum? Enkitta pesanunu avarukku thonala thaana? Avaru entha kavalaiyum illama coola thaana suthittu irukkaru, naan mattum yen worry pannanum?"
Mahesh put the mobile on the bedside table and finally looked at Poorna who looked confused. Poorna saw him looking at her. Poorna thought without saying it loud "Finally ippo thaan ennai paakanunu thonucha?". She gave him an angry look and left the room.
Mahesh sighed and started to finish off some work online.
Poorna went to the kitchen. Sudha gave snacks for both Poorna and Mahesh. "Intha Poorna unakkum Maheshkum snacks, nee eduthuttu po, naan tea pottu kondu varen".
Poorna didn't receive the snacks from her. Instead she went to the sink and started to wash the dishes. Sudha looked at her and thought Poorna looked angry, but she doesn't know for what. Before the snacks becoming cold, she wanted to give it to Mahesh. So she took one plate of bonda and chutney to his room. She knocked and opened the door. "Vaanga anni"
"Intha Mahesh, unakku thaan eduthutu vanthen"
Mahesh was silent for couple of seconds and said "Thanks anni, tea readya?"
"Itho, innum 5 mins la ready aagidum, naan eduthuttu varen"
"Illa anni, neenga eduthuttu vara vendam, naane keezha varen"
"Mm sari" Sudha left.
Mahesh came downstairs with the bonda and chutney and looked around in the hall and couldn't see Poorna. He went inside the kitchen and saw Poorna washing the dishes. Once Poorna saw Mahesh, she put the plates roughly and made noise. Sudha turned around and saw Poorna and then saw Mahesh inside the kitchen.
"Yedhavathu venuma Mahesh?"
"Onnum illa anni, kudikka thanni venum, naan eduthukiren"
Mahesh had the water and left the kitchen. Everyone gathered in the front garden and started to converse while having snacks and tea. Azhagu asked Sudha "Poorna enga?"
"Ava dishes ellam vilakkittu maadiku poita ma"
"Snacks ethuvum sapidalaya? Tea kudichala illaiya?"
"Ellathaiyum maadiku eduthutu poita ma"
"Oh, sari maadila tv paathute sapiduvannu ninakiren"
Mahesh didn't go upstairs for the whole evening. Dinner time came and Pazhani asked "Mahesh poi Poornava sapida kootitu vaa"
"Mmm appa, enakku romba pasikkuthu, idly vera sooda irukku, saptutu poi avala anuppuren pa"
"Sari thaan, ippo pondattiya mukkiyam, soodana idly thaana mukkiyam" teased Pazhani.
Ravi became elated to see this rift between Mahesh and Poorna. He said "Sudha neeyum ukkanthu sapidu"
"Illa, neenga ellam sapidunga, naan apram sapiduren"
Pazhani said "Ada enna Sudha nee, ithu enna 1940 ya? Ellarum sapta piragu veetu marumaga sapidurathuku? Athuvum namma familyla intha formality ellam paakanuma?"
"Athukilla pa, usualla Kavya illa Thiruna rendu dosai venunu keppanga, avanga kettanganna dosai oothi tharalamennu ninachen"
Kavya said "Ayyo anni, naanga itha yosikkave illai paarunga, neenga ukkarunga anni, inimel dosai venuna naan munnadiye solren, apdi illana naane poi oothikiren".
"Enna Kavya nee? Unakku rendu dosai oothi thara porathulaya naan tired aagida poren?"
"Athukilla anni, ellarum senthu sapidura santhoshame thani santhosham thaana? Neengalum ukkarunga, Poorna anniya poi naan kootitu varen" said Kavya.
Kavya came to see Poorna. "Anni, sapida vaanga, ungalukaga thaan ellarum waiting"
"Illa Kavya, enakku pasikala, neenga ellam sapidunga"
"Pcchhh vaanga anni..." Kavya grabbed Poorna's hand and tried to pull her to get up.
"Enna Kavya nee? Sonna kekka maatiya? Sari vidu varen"
Poorna came down while looking at Mahesh, but Mahesh didn't try to see her. He kept his head down and concentrated on eating the idly and coconut chutney.
Everyone had the dinner. Mahesh finished earlier and left to his room.
Poorna sorted out the kitchen, washed the dishes, cleaned the kitchen and started to mop the floor. Sudha asked "Poorna, naan panren kudu"
Poorna didn't give it to her, she didn't even reply. She just kept working. Sudha hesitated for a moment to leave her in the kitchen as she can see Poorna is upset for something. But she didn't want to make it any worse by talking to her as sometimes it happens when she interferes, so she left the kitchen.
Mahesh couldn't sleep and wondered why Poorna is not back. Its around 11pm. He thought "Ivlo neram enna panra? Ellarume thoonga poi iruppangale". He got up from the bed and looked down. Everywhere is dark except the kitchen. He slowly walked to the kitchen and saw Poorna scrubbing the worktop. She was sweating and looked tired. She saw Mahesh standing near the kitchen door. She started to scrub the worktop vigorously.
Mahesh took a glass of water while looking at Poorna and started to drink it.
"Poorna, intha nerathula kitchena clean pannanuma? Kaalaila pannikalam, epdi verthu irukku paaru?" He took Poorna's mundhanai tucked in her hip and tried to wipe off the sweating from her forehead and face. Poorna stared at him. He caught the glance of it, but he ignored and continued to wipe off her face. Poorna stood like a statue. When he finished wiping off, she took off the saree from his hand and tucked it again and continued the scrubbing.
Mahesh got angry. He grabbed her hand and said "Hey solren la, vaa poi thoongalam, naalaiku pannikalam vaa".
Poorna stared at him for a second and continued her work.
"Poorna..." he pressed on her arm angrily in an effort to drag her from the kitchen.
Poorna said calmly "Kaiya edunga..."
"Mudiyathu" replied Mahesh angrily.
Poorna tried to push off his gripping hand.
"Ippo enna aachu unakku? Yen ipdi irukka?" asked Mahesh.
"Ohhooo....ippo thaan naan irukkarthu unga kannuku theriyuthu, ippo thaan enakku enna aachunnu kekka thonuthu ungaluku? illa?"
"Amam, ippo thaan unna en kannuku theriyuthu, sari vaa maadiku pogalam"
"Vara mudiyathu"
Mahesh forcefully grabbed the scrubber from her hands and took her to the sink and washed her hands. He made sure everything is turned off in the kitchen while holding Poorna in one hand and dragged her to his room.
Once they entered the room, Mahesh locked the room and said "Thoongu, kalaila poi evlo neram venalum scrub pannu kitchena"
He laid down in the bed to sleep. Poorna was standing and thinking "thirumba polama vendama? thirumba pona kova paduvara? athukunnu ipdi kootitu vanthu thoonga sonna, naanum nalla pulla madiri avar pecha kettu thoonganuma? apram avar mela enakku irukkira kovatha epdi thaan kaatrathu? ennavo ivaruku enmela kovapada thaguthi irukka madiri kova paduraru, cha...."
Mahesh asked "Ippo nee thoonga poriya illaiya?"
Poorna replied "Mudiyathu".
Mahesh got up and sat in the bed.
"Enna prachanai unakku?"
"Yaaru ungaluku call panninathu? Ava per enna? Ethuku ava continuousa call panra? Ava call vantha unga mugam yen veliri poguthu? Ungakooda oruthi chat pannuvale, ava thaana? Annaiku night 9 manikellam vara sonnane, yen varala? Ethuku en calla cut pannineenga? Ethuku switch off pannineenga? Raghav annakitta ethuku low batteryala switch off aachunnu poi soneenga? Veetuku vantha piragu yen enkitta pesala? Yen ennai avoid pannineenga? Yen enkitta eye contact kooda illa? Apdi enna thappu pannuneenga avaloda?" Poorna poured out everything without taking any breath.
Meanwhile Mahesh was getting restless and angry. "Athukellam naan badhil solrathuku munnadi nee ennoda ore oru kelviku badhil sollu".
Poorna got so angry. Even after all these questions, he has the guts to ask me a question before answering my questions. She started to breathe heavily and sweated profusely and looked like she was about to collapse. Mahesh looked at her and his angry went down looking at her like this. He got up from the bed and ran around the bed to her immediately. As Poorna was about to collapse as her legs gave up, Mahesh held her from falling. "Poorna Poorna enna aachu?"
Poorna became unconscious. Mahesh laid her on the bed, turned on the ac and fan, wiped off her sweating, took the water from the bedside table and sprinkled it on her face. She didn't get up. Mahesh started to sweat and his voice started to break down. "Poorna, poorna..." he patted on her cheeks. He checked her pulse and heartbeat. Her heart was beating fast, but otherwise she seemed to be fine.
As the breeze from ac and fan touched Poorna, Mahesh noticed there was some movement in her closed eyes. He was wondering if he should ask anyone else for help or call the doctor or just take her to the hospital. He took the mobile and dialled a number, while it started to ring, he disconnected the call. He tried to lift Poorna and thought something else and put her down on the bed. He went to the door and hesitated for couple of seconds. He came back and tried to wake up Poorna again. He again went to the door, came back, took his mobile, put it down. He talked to himself "Ok ok cool Mahesh, enna pannalam konjam porumaiya yosi, sari ammavaye koopidalam". As he was about to go to the door, Poorna mumbled something. Mahesh ran back to her. "Poorna, Poorna....enna da pannuthu? Mayakkama irukka?"
"Than..." Poorna couldn't get the words from her dry throat, her eyes are still closed, so she gestured slowly by lifting her hand and signalled for water.
"Thanniya?" Mahesh relieved to hear at least half word from her. He took the water and lifted her half to help her drink the water. She drank the water, but couldn't fully open her eyes.
"Poorna enna pannuthu? Mayakkama irukka? Illa vera yedhavathu pannutha?" asked Mahesh.
She laid down again without answering him. Mahesh knelt down on the side of the bed and caressed her hair and forehead. "Naan poi ammava kootitu varen" Mahesh tried to get up. But she held his shirt while trying to hold his hand and said "vendam".
"Yen vendam? Enakku romba tensiona irukku, naan poi avangala kootitu varen"
"Konjam verkkama iruntha sari aagidum"
Mahesh got up fast and increased the fan speed and came back to Poorna.
He kissed on her forehead and caressed her.
After 5 mins or so, he asked her again "Ippo epdi irukku? Paravallaya? Illana Dr-kitta pogalama?"
"Mmhmm.." she denied.
Mahesh kept caressing her hair.
After 5 mins or so, Mahesh went to the other side of the bed, laid down and hugged Poorna and caressed her to sleep.
When Poorna woke up next morning and saw Mahesh's hand across her stomach, she remembered what happened the previous night. "Tension aanathula cha mayakkam pottu vizhunthuttome, oru kelvikkum badhil kidaikkalaiye, athenna avar yetho kelvi keppennu sonnaru, ennava irukkum?"
As she was thinking while still lying in the bed, Mahesh brought her close to him. "Ippo epdi irukku?"
Poorna tried to relieve herself from him, but couldn't from his grip.
He seems to be in half sleep still, but not intending to leave her without an answer. He kissed her on her cheeks. Poorna remembered Mahesh taking the mobile and talking to the girl while trying to hide from everyone in the garden last week. She became uncomfortable to be in his hold. But she knows he is not going to leave her without an answer. So she said "Mm paravalla ippo".
"Enna aachu actuala nethu night unakku?"
"Theriyala, thideernu neraiya verkka arambichiduchu, apram apdiye mayakkam vanthuduchu"
"Sari innaiku Drkitta poitu varalam"
"Athellam onnum vendam, nethu night romba neram ninnu kitchenla work panninathala tired aagi iruppen, vera onnum irukkathu"
"Ethuva irunthalum Dr kitta poitu vanthudalam"
He won't leave her if she keeps denying his suggestion and she is not happy to be in his arms without clearing her doubts. So she was thinking how to relieve herself from his hug.
"Oru nimisham vidungalen, bathroom poganum"
Mahesh relieved her. "Sabba aala vidu saamy" she thought to herself. She only came out after the shower. Since she went fast into the bathroom to get away from Mahesh, she didn't take any clothes to change after the shower. She wrapped herself in the in skirt. "Ippo enna nadakka pogutho?" She thought and searched for a saree. She slightly looked at him to see if Mahesh is still in bed admiring her beauty or if he is standing close to her. But Mahesh seems to be sleeping and didn't look at her. For some reason, Poorna didn't know if she has to feel disappointed or happy. Then she thought "May be avala ninachuttu thoonguraro ennavo, yaaruku theriyum?" She draped the saree.
Mahesh woke up and said to Poorna "Unkitta konjam pesanum, wait pannu, kitchenku velai seiyya odidatha".
Poorna became nervous. She had to keep herself cool. "Ippo enna? Pesanumnu thaana solli irukkaru, nalla vishayam thaana? Enna thaan solla vararunnu keppom".
Mahesh got out after the shower and was getting dressed up while Poorna pretended to be reading a book. "Vaa polam" said Mahesh.
P: "Enga?"
M: "Keezha"
P: "Yetho pesanum soneengale?"
M: "Athu evening pesikalam, ippo vaa polam"
P: "Illa enakku ippave pesanum"
M: "Namma problem pathi Ravikitta pesartha nee eppo nirutha pora?"
Poorna got shocked for a second and mumbled "Naan enna Ravi aththaan kitta namma problem pathi sonnen?"
She said it out loud "Naan ethuvum sollalaiye"
M: "Nee sonnanu enakku theriyum, yaar enakku call panra, antha ponnu yaaru, etc, etc, ithellam pathi avankitta pesi irukka, pesuniya illaiya?" asked Mahesh angrily.
Poorna became scared and didn't respond.
"Sollu" shouted Mahesh.
Poorna never seen him this angry. Her hands started to tremble. Her whole body started to shiver.
Mahesh got concerned. "Hey hey Poorna, onnum illa, sari vidu, avankitta namma problem pathi ethuvum pesatha, ethuva irunthalum enkitta pesu, sariya? Sari, ipdi ukkaru, naan poi namakku tiffin eduthutu varen".
Mahesh brought 9 idlys in a plate and brought two cups of coffee.
"Sari vaa, sapidalam" asked Mahesh.
P: "Illa enakku vendam, pasikkala"
M: "Pasikutho, pasikalaiyo, sapidanum"
P: "Neenga antha calls pathi sollunga"
Mahesh took a sigh. "Enmela nambikkai illaiya?"
Poorna looked at him. She thought "Ivara paatha enakku throgam panravar madiri theriyalaye, apram yen naan avara sandhega paduren?"
"Trust me Poorna, konjam issues irukku, sort out pannitu unkitta detaileda solren, okva? Athu varaikkum nee tension aagama konjam freeya jollya iru, ippo aa vaangiko" Mahesh tried to feed Poorna.
Poorna didn't want to argue and started to eat. Mahesh felt relieved that she dropped the matter and started to eat and thought "Evlo naal unmaiya sollama ivala samalikka mudiyunnu theriyalaye".
Poorna too noticed his face expression and thought "ipdi ooti vidurathu ellam nalla thaan irukku Mahesh, aana ipdi chinna chinna santhosham kuduthu periya vishayathula poi solli ennai yemathalannu mattum ninakatheenga, ungala naan apram chumma vida maaten".
For the time being, Mahesh is relieved that Poorna had a good breakfast. He started for the office. "Nee keezha vanthu strain pannatha, konjam rest edu, naan annikitta lunch bag pack panna solren". Poorna also nodded to his suggestion.
Mahesh went downstairs and said to Sudha "Anni, Poorna konjam tireda irukka, nethu night lesa mayakkam vera vanthuduchu".
"Achacho enna solreenga Mahesh? Engala ezhuppi irukkalam la?
"Illa perusa bayapada onnum illa anni, just keep an eye on her.
"Mmm sari Mahesh, naan paathukiren, neenga poitu vaanga"
"Dr kitta polanu sonnalum kekka matengura, neenga konjam avala paathukanga anni, naan evening vanthu avala convince panni Dr kitta kootitu poren, perusa onnum velai illai innaiku, so seekiram vanthiduven, athu varaikkum paathukonga anni, please, ava roomla iruntha kooda appapo avala check pannikonga".
"Neenga onnum kavala padatheenga, naan paathukiren, neenga poittu vaanga"
"Ok anni, thanks, poitu varen" left Mahesh.

Raghav called the cafe number and asked them to check if Mahesh is there. They replied yes. He asked him to give the phone to Mahesh to talk.

M: Oh amam

Mahesh thought for a second and decided to lie.

Mahesh's guess was right.
M: Poornava? Enna sonna? Avala nee paathiya?

Raghav called Poorna and told her about Mahesh's headache and him snoozing off after taking the tablet and also that her guess was right about Mahesh's mobile got switched off due to low battery.
Poorna thanked him and disconnected the call. She thought "Enakku thaana theriyum, avaru ethana thadava en calla avoid panninarunnu, low battery-ala switch off aagiducham, innaiku avarkitta pesalannu ninachen, but naan yen pesanum? Doubts illama pesi clear panni santhoshama irukkalannu ninachen, aana eppo naan ivlo thooram try panniyum ennai ignore panninaro, eppo enakku irukkira akkarai avarukku illaiyo, naan mattum ethukku avarkitta vazhiya vazhiya pesa solli kenjanum, ennamum pannatum".
Poorna switched off the lights, covered herself with a blanket and forced herself to sleep, but she couldn't. May be 30 mins would have gone when Mahesh slowly opened the door and entered the room. He put away his office bag, changed into his nightwear, refreshed himself. When he came to bed, Poorna thought he might come and hug her and might try to make her cool. "Varattum, vanthu ice vaikkira madiri yedhavathu pannatum, apram irukku avarukku" thought Poorna. She was ready to give him the cold shoulders. But he didn't touch her, in fact, he started to sleep on the other side away from her, making sure that there is a good gap between them. It made Poorna furious. "Evlo thimiru iruntha ivlo thooram en callsa avoid pannitu, Raghav annakitta low battery ala switch off aagiduchunnu poi sollitu, onnume nadakatha madiri thoonguvaru??"
Neither of them turned to other side to see the other.
Next morning Mahesh was getting ready to go to work. Poorna looked angry and didn't put any effort to talk to Mahesh, although kept staring at Mahesh while doing the chores to make eye contact with him and to let him know that she is staring at him as she is angry. Mahesh looked indifferent, not cold or warm, no expression on his face, he looked bit tired, he didn't even make eye contact with Poorna.
When Poorna gave him the lunch bag, he didn't even say thanks or looked at her, he just left to work. Poorna got confused. "Naan thaana kova padanum ivar mela? Athaan naan kovama irukken, but ivaru ennadanna enmela kovama irukka madiri ennai paaka kooda matenguraru?" Poorna became dull and sad as her efforts are running thin. Ravi came behind her and asked "Nethu night late-a vanthana?"
Poorna didn't reply anything.
"Sollu Poorna, late-a thaana vanthan?"
"Amam"
"Mmm enga poi suthittu vanthannu kettiya?"
"Yen kekkanum? Avar onnum porupillama suthura aal kidaiyathu, Officela velai adhigam, athanala late-a vantharu"
"Mhmm.." smirked Ravi.
It bothered Poorna. "Yen nakkala sirikureenga?"
"Nee innum Mahesha purinjukalaiyenu ninachen"
"Ithula purinjukka lam onnum illa, Raghav annan kooda nethu call panni kettapo office cafe-la thaan Mahesh irukartha sonnaru"
Again Ravi smirked. Poorna become confused and angry.
"Yaaru? Ivan close friend Raghava? Sariya pochu, avan unakku unmaiya solratha vida Maheshku unmaiya irukanunnu thaan ninapan, ennavo po, ipdi ilichavaaya irukkatha, ellarum yemathiduvanga"
"Epdi? Neenga ennai yemathina maadiriya?" gave back Poorna.
"Naan yemathinatha sari panna thaan unakku ivlo thooram help panna try panren, athu kooda unakku puriyalaye, anyhow enakenna vanthuchu? Enakku velai irukku, naan kilamburen" left Ravi.
Couple of days passed without Mahesh and Poorna talking to each other. Its around 5pm in the evening, Mahesh returned from work so early today, but with bunch of files. Mahesh was talking to someone on the phone.
"Amam da, inga almost work mudinjuthu, innum couple of days-la Kodaikanal varuvennu ninakiren"
....
"Amam, amam, Raghavum thaan varuvan, but avan anga konja naal thaan iruppan, avanuku work main-a Chennaila thaana, appapo vanthutu povan"

"Sure da, un wife-a officela vanthu kudukka sollu, naan varum pothu kondu varen"

"Ok da bye"
Poorna got alerted to know that Mahesh will leave to Kodaikanal in couple of days. She started to wonder and worry "Enna ithu? Onnume antha phone call pathi kekala, pesa mudiyala, ivar mela naan kovama irukkalannu paatha ivaru enakku mela kovama irukkaru, ennai kandukka kooda matenguraru, ipdiye pesamale continue pannalama? Pannina apram Kodaikanal poiduvare, apram epdi pesarthu? Cha, naan yen ithellam ninachu worry pannanum? Enkitta pesanunu avarukku thonala thaana? Avaru entha kavalaiyum illama coola thaana suthittu irukkaru, naan mattum yen worry pannanum?"
Mahesh put the mobile on the bedside table and finally looked at Poorna who looked confused. Poorna saw him looking at her. Poorna thought without saying it loud "Finally ippo thaan ennai paakanunu thonucha?". She gave him an angry look and left the room.
Mahesh sighed and started to finish off some work online.
Poorna went to the kitchen. Sudha gave snacks for both Poorna and Mahesh. "Intha Poorna unakkum Maheshkum snacks, nee eduthuttu po, naan tea pottu kondu varen".
Poorna didn't receive the snacks from her. Instead she went to the sink and started to wash the dishes. Sudha looked at her and thought Poorna looked angry, but she doesn't know for what. Before the snacks becoming cold, she wanted to give it to Mahesh. So she took one plate of bonda and chutney to his room. She knocked and opened the door. "Vaanga anni"
"Intha Mahesh, unakku thaan eduthutu vanthen"
Mahesh was silent for couple of seconds and said "Thanks anni, tea readya?"
"Itho, innum 5 mins la ready aagidum, naan eduthuttu varen"
"Illa anni, neenga eduthuttu vara vendam, naane keezha varen"
"Mm sari" Sudha left.
Mahesh came downstairs with the bonda and chutney and looked around in the hall and couldn't see Poorna. He went inside the kitchen and saw Poorna washing the dishes. Once Poorna saw Mahesh, she put the plates roughly and made noise. Sudha turned around and saw Poorna and then saw Mahesh inside the kitchen.
"Yedhavathu venuma Mahesh?"
"Onnum illa anni, kudikka thanni venum, naan eduthukiren"
Mahesh had the water and left the kitchen. Everyone gathered in the front garden and started to converse while having snacks and tea. Azhagu asked Sudha "Poorna enga?"
"Ava dishes ellam vilakkittu maadiku poita ma"
"Snacks ethuvum sapidalaya? Tea kudichala illaiya?"
"Ellathaiyum maadiku eduthutu poita ma"
"Oh, sari maadila tv paathute sapiduvannu ninakiren"
Mahesh didn't go upstairs for the whole evening. Dinner time came and Pazhani asked "Mahesh poi Poornava sapida kootitu vaa"
"Mmm appa, enakku romba pasikkuthu, idly vera sooda irukku, saptutu poi avala anuppuren pa"
"Sari thaan, ippo pondattiya mukkiyam, soodana idly thaana mukkiyam" teased Pazhani.
Ravi became elated to see this rift between Mahesh and Poorna. He said "Sudha neeyum ukkanthu sapidu"
"Illa, neenga ellam sapidunga, naan apram sapiduren"
Pazhani said "Ada enna Sudha nee, ithu enna 1940 ya? Ellarum sapta piragu veetu marumaga sapidurathuku? Athuvum namma familyla intha formality ellam paakanuma?"
"Athukilla pa, usualla Kavya illa Thiruna rendu dosai venunu keppanga, avanga kettanganna dosai oothi tharalamennu ninachen"
Kavya said "Ayyo anni, naanga itha yosikkave illai paarunga, neenga ukkarunga anni, inimel dosai venuna naan munnadiye solren, apdi illana naane poi oothikiren".
"Enna Kavya nee? Unakku rendu dosai oothi thara porathulaya naan tired aagida poren?"
"Athukilla anni, ellarum senthu sapidura santhoshame thani santhosham thaana? Neengalum ukkarunga, Poorna anniya poi naan kootitu varen" said Kavya.
Kavya came to see Poorna. "Anni, sapida vaanga, ungalukaga thaan ellarum waiting"
"Illa Kavya, enakku pasikala, neenga ellam sapidunga"
"Pcchhh vaanga anni..." Kavya grabbed Poorna's hand and tried to pull her to get up.
"Enna Kavya nee? Sonna kekka maatiya? Sari vidu varen"
Poorna came down while looking at Mahesh, but Mahesh didn't try to see her. He kept his head down and concentrated on eating the idly and coconut chutney.
Everyone had the dinner. Mahesh finished earlier and left to his room.
Poorna sorted out the kitchen, washed the dishes, cleaned the kitchen and started to mop the floor. Sudha asked "Poorna, naan panren kudu"
Poorna didn't give it to her, she didn't even reply. She just kept working. Sudha hesitated for a moment to leave her in the kitchen as she can see Poorna is upset for something. But she didn't want to make it any worse by talking to her as sometimes it happens when she interferes, so she left the kitchen.
Mahesh couldn't sleep and wondered why Poorna is not back. Its around 11pm. He thought "Ivlo neram enna panra? Ellarume thoonga poi iruppangale". He got up from the bed and looked down. Everywhere is dark except the kitchen. He slowly walked to the kitchen and saw Poorna scrubbing the worktop. She was sweating and looked tired. She saw Mahesh standing near the kitchen door. She started to scrub the worktop vigorously.
Mahesh took a glass of water while looking at Poorna and started to drink it.
"Poorna, intha nerathula kitchena clean pannanuma? Kaalaila pannikalam, epdi verthu irukku paaru?" He took Poorna's mundhanai tucked in her hip and tried to wipe off the sweating from her forehead and face. Poorna stared at him. He caught the glance of it, but he ignored and continued to wipe off her face. Poorna stood like a statue. When he finished wiping off, she took off the saree from his hand and tucked it again and continued the scrubbing.
Mahesh got angry. He grabbed her hand and said "Hey solren la, vaa poi thoongalam, naalaiku pannikalam vaa".
Poorna stared at him for a second and continued her work.
"Poorna..." he pressed on her arm angrily in an effort to drag her from the kitchen.
Poorna said calmly "Kaiya edunga..."
"Mudiyathu" replied Mahesh angrily.
Poorna tried to push off his gripping hand.
"Ippo enna aachu unakku? Yen ipdi irukka?" asked Mahesh.
"Ohhooo....ippo thaan naan irukkarthu unga kannuku theriyuthu, ippo thaan enakku enna aachunnu kekka thonuthu ungaluku? illa?"
"Amam, ippo thaan unna en kannuku theriyuthu, sari vaa maadiku pogalam"
"Vara mudiyathu"
Mahesh forcefully grabbed the scrubber from her hands and took her to the sink and washed her hands. He made sure everything is turned off in the kitchen while holding Poorna in one hand and dragged her to his room.
Once they entered the room, Mahesh locked the room and said "Thoongu, kalaila poi evlo neram venalum scrub pannu kitchena"
He laid down in the bed to sleep. Poorna was standing and thinking "thirumba polama vendama? thirumba pona kova paduvara? athukunnu ipdi kootitu vanthu thoonga sonna, naanum nalla pulla madiri avar pecha kettu thoonganuma? apram avar mela enakku irukkira kovatha epdi thaan kaatrathu? ennavo ivaruku enmela kovapada thaguthi irukka madiri kova paduraru, cha...."
Mahesh asked "Ippo nee thoonga poriya illaiya?"
Poorna replied "Mudiyathu".
Mahesh got up and sat in the bed.
"Enna prachanai unakku?"
"Yaaru ungaluku call panninathu? Ava per enna? Ethuku ava continuousa call panra? Ava call vantha unga mugam yen veliri poguthu? Ungakooda oruthi chat pannuvale, ava thaana? Annaiku night 9 manikellam vara sonnane, yen varala? Ethuku en calla cut pannineenga? Ethuku switch off pannineenga? Raghav annakitta ethuku low batteryala switch off aachunnu poi soneenga? Veetuku vantha piragu yen enkitta pesala? Yen ennai avoid pannineenga? Yen enkitta eye contact kooda illa? Apdi enna thappu pannuneenga avaloda?" Poorna poured out everything without taking any breath.
Meanwhile Mahesh was getting restless and angry. "Athukellam naan badhil solrathuku munnadi nee ennoda ore oru kelviku badhil sollu".
Poorna got so angry. Even after all these questions, he has the guts to ask me a question before answering my questions. She started to breathe heavily and sweated profusely and looked like she was about to collapse. Mahesh looked at her and his angry went down looking at her like this. He got up from the bed and ran around the bed to her immediately. As Poorna was about to collapse as her legs gave up, Mahesh held her from falling. "Poorna Poorna enna aachu?"
Poorna became unconscious. Mahesh laid her on the bed, turned on the ac and fan, wiped off her sweating, took the water from the bedside table and sprinkled it on her face. She didn't get up. Mahesh started to sweat and his voice started to break down. "Poorna, poorna..." he patted on her cheeks. He checked her pulse and heartbeat. Her heart was beating fast, but otherwise she seemed to be fine.
As the breeze from ac and fan touched Poorna, Mahesh noticed there was some movement in her closed eyes. He was wondering if he should ask anyone else for help or call the doctor or just take her to the hospital. He took the mobile and dialled a number, while it started to ring, he disconnected the call. He tried to lift Poorna and thought something else and put her down on the bed. He went to the door and hesitated for couple of seconds. He came back and tried to wake up Poorna again. He again went to the door, came back, took his mobile, put it down. He talked to himself "Ok ok cool Mahesh, enna pannalam konjam porumaiya yosi, sari ammavaye koopidalam". As he was about to go to the door, Poorna mumbled something. Mahesh ran back to her. "Poorna, Poorna....enna da pannuthu? Mayakkama irukka?"
"Than..." Poorna couldn't get the words from her dry throat, her eyes are still closed, so she gestured slowly by lifting her hand and signalled for water.
"Thanniya?" Mahesh relieved to hear at least half word from her. He took the water and lifted her half to help her drink the water. She drank the water, but couldn't fully open her eyes.
"Poorna enna pannuthu? Mayakkama irukka? Illa vera yedhavathu pannutha?" asked Mahesh.
She laid down again without answering him. Mahesh knelt down on the side of the bed and caressed her hair and forehead. "Naan poi ammava kootitu varen" Mahesh tried to get up. But she held his shirt while trying to hold his hand and said "vendam".
"Yen vendam? Enakku romba tensiona irukku, naan poi avangala kootitu varen"
"Konjam verkkama iruntha sari aagidum"
Mahesh got up fast and increased the fan speed and came back to Poorna.
He kissed on her forehead and caressed her.
After 5 mins or so, he asked her again "Ippo epdi irukku? Paravallaya? Illana Dr-kitta pogalama?"
"Mmhmm.." she denied.
Mahesh kept caressing her hair.
After 5 mins or so, Mahesh went to the other side of the bed, laid down and hugged Poorna and caressed her to sleep.
When Poorna woke up next morning and saw Mahesh's hand across her stomach, she remembered what happened the previous night. "Tension aanathula cha mayakkam pottu vizhunthuttome, oru kelvikkum badhil kidaikkalaiye, athenna avar yetho kelvi keppennu sonnaru, ennava irukkum?"
As she was thinking while still lying in the bed, Mahesh brought her close to him. "Ippo epdi irukku?"
Poorna tried to relieve herself from him, but couldn't from his grip.
He seems to be in half sleep still, but not intending to leave her without an answer. He kissed her on her cheeks. Poorna remembered Mahesh taking the mobile and talking to the girl while trying to hide from everyone in the garden last week. She became uncomfortable to be in his hold. But she knows he is not going to leave her without an answer. So she said "Mm paravalla ippo".
"Enna aachu actuala nethu night unakku?"
"Theriyala, thideernu neraiya verkka arambichiduchu, apram apdiye mayakkam vanthuduchu"
"Sari innaiku Drkitta poitu varalam"
"Athellam onnum vendam, nethu night romba neram ninnu kitchenla work panninathala tired aagi iruppen, vera onnum irukkathu"
"Ethuva irunthalum Dr kitta poitu vanthudalam"
He won't leave her if she keeps denying his suggestion and she is not happy to be in his arms without clearing her doubts. So she was thinking how to relieve herself from his hug.
"Oru nimisham vidungalen, bathroom poganum"
Mahesh relieved her. "Sabba aala vidu saamy" she thought to herself. She only came out after the shower. Since she went fast into the bathroom to get away from Mahesh, she didn't take any clothes to change after the shower. She wrapped herself in the in skirt. "Ippo enna nadakka pogutho?" She thought and searched for a saree. She slightly looked at him to see if Mahesh is still in bed admiring her beauty or if he is standing close to her. But Mahesh seems to be sleeping and didn't look at her. For some reason, Poorna didn't know if she has to feel disappointed or happy. Then she thought "May be avala ninachuttu thoonguraro ennavo, yaaruku theriyum?" She draped the saree.
Mahesh woke up and said to Poorna "Unkitta konjam pesanum, wait pannu, kitchenku velai seiyya odidatha".
Poorna became nervous. She had to keep herself cool. "Ippo enna? Pesanumnu thaana solli irukkaru, nalla vishayam thaana? Enna thaan solla vararunnu keppom".
Mahesh got out after the shower and was getting dressed up while Poorna pretended to be reading a book. "Vaa polam" said Mahesh.
P: "Enga?"
M: "Keezha"
P: "Yetho pesanum soneengale?"
M: "Athu evening pesikalam, ippo vaa polam"
P: "Illa enakku ippave pesanum"
M: "Namma problem pathi Ravikitta pesartha nee eppo nirutha pora?"
Poorna got shocked for a second and mumbled "Naan enna Ravi aththaan kitta namma problem pathi sonnen?"
She said it out loud "Naan ethuvum sollalaiye"
M: "Nee sonnanu enakku theriyum, yaar enakku call panra, antha ponnu yaaru, etc, etc, ithellam pathi avankitta pesi irukka, pesuniya illaiya?" asked Mahesh angrily.
Poorna became scared and didn't respond.
"Sollu" shouted Mahesh.
Poorna never seen him this angry. Her hands started to tremble. Her whole body started to shiver.
Mahesh got concerned. "Hey hey Poorna, onnum illa, sari vidu, avankitta namma problem pathi ethuvum pesatha, ethuva irunthalum enkitta pesu, sariya? Sari, ipdi ukkaru, naan poi namakku tiffin eduthutu varen".
Mahesh brought 9 idlys in a plate and brought two cups of coffee.
"Sari vaa, sapidalam" asked Mahesh.
P: "Illa enakku vendam, pasikkala"
M: "Pasikutho, pasikalaiyo, sapidanum"
P: "Neenga antha calls pathi sollunga"
Mahesh took a sigh. "Enmela nambikkai illaiya?"
Poorna looked at him. She thought "Ivara paatha enakku throgam panravar madiri theriyalaye, apram yen naan avara sandhega paduren?"
"Trust me Poorna, konjam issues irukku, sort out pannitu unkitta detaileda solren, okva? Athu varaikkum nee tension aagama konjam freeya jollya iru, ippo aa vaangiko" Mahesh tried to feed Poorna.
Poorna didn't want to argue and started to eat. Mahesh felt relieved that she dropped the matter and started to eat and thought "Evlo naal unmaiya sollama ivala samalikka mudiyunnu theriyalaye".
Poorna too noticed his face expression and thought "ipdi ooti vidurathu ellam nalla thaan irukku Mahesh, aana ipdi chinna chinna santhosham kuduthu periya vishayathula poi solli ennai yemathalannu mattum ninakatheenga, ungala naan apram chumma vida maaten".
For the time being, Mahesh is relieved that Poorna had a good breakfast. He started for the office. "Nee keezha vanthu strain pannatha, konjam rest edu, naan annikitta lunch bag pack panna solren". Poorna also nodded to his suggestion.
Mahesh went downstairs and said to Sudha "Anni, Poorna konjam tireda irukka, nethu night lesa mayakkam vera vanthuduchu".
"Achacho enna solreenga Mahesh? Engala ezhuppi irukkalam la?
"Illa perusa bayapada onnum illa anni, just keep an eye on her.
"Mmm sari Mahesh, naan paathukiren, neenga poitu vaanga"
"Dr kitta polanu sonnalum kekka matengura, neenga konjam avala paathukanga anni, naan evening vanthu avala convince panni Dr kitta kootitu poren, perusa onnum velai illai innaiku, so seekiram vanthiduven, athu varaikkum paathukonga anni, please, ava roomla iruntha kooda appapo avala check pannikonga".
"Neenga onnum kavala padatheenga, naan paathukiren, neenga poittu vaanga"
"Ok anni, thanks, poitu varen" left Mahesh.
